The aim of the course is to explores the international behaviour of States and other relevant actors of foreign policy (firms, multilateral organizations, the media, etc.) and their interactions in international politics. During the course, students will develop the following abilities:
1) Identify the main actors, trends and dynamics of foreign policy;
2) Analyze the way in which the actors of foreign policy (States, firms, multilateral organizations, the media, etc.) reframe the relations and interactions in international politics;
3) Better understand the functioning of the actors of foreign policy, and to critically reflect on their rationales, their social uses and utilities and their endogenous and exogenous dynamics;
4) Acquire knowledge of the origins, social rules and transformations of diplomacy;
5) Produce contextualized and critical analysis of foreign policy that is relevant for the press, policy-makers, the private sector or civil society;
6) Participate in real-life and policy-oriented discussions about foreign policy and diplomacy;
7) Use theoretical and analytical tools to explain case studies and approach specific topics, including current events;
8) Identify the main topics and debates, arguments and theories of diplomacy & Paradiplomacy;
9) Develop academic research skills and a taste for foreign policy analysis;
10) Improve their ability to write academic essays.
